  • Summer 2016: US intelligence community collected information that Russian officials were seeking to influence Donald Trump using either Paul Manafort or Michael Flynn. (link) Some discussion of the discussion by Russian government officials was “derogatory.” It was not clear if this discussion was part of a disinformation campaign. (link)
  • June 2016: According to the Washington Post, Carter Page praised Vladimir Putin as a stronger leader than Barack Obama. (link)  Either in June or July, James Comey attempted to go public about the allegations of Russian interference. The Obama administration did not permit it because it was decided that there should be a coordinated message backed by multiple agencies. (link)
  • June 14, 2016:  The Democratic National Committee announced that it has been hacked. (link)
  • June 15, 2016: Guccifer 2.0 released documents through WikiLeaks stolen from the DNC including plans on how to attack Donald Trump . (link)  Trump responds saying the DNC were behind the leak as a distraction. (link)
  • June 20, 2016: Donald Trump fired Corey Lewandowski and replaced him with Paul Manafort. (link)
  • June 21, 2016:  Guccifer 2.0 released more stolen documents from the DNC through WikiLeaks which included Clinton’s vulnerabilities.  (link)
  • July 7, 2016:  Carter Page criticized the United States and other Western democracies at a speech in Moscow (link)  Donald Trump’s former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski  approved the trip. (link)
